The Brew

You have all heard that Ayahuasca tastes disgusting.
Well the first time i took it, i must say i was pleasantly surprised. Don’t get me wrong, it tasted pretty bad, but i downed it without difficulty.
But that day i took 4 doses. And it didn’t get any better.
Dose 2 was a lot harder to take. Dose 3 took things to a new level of difficulty. And by dose 4 i knew i wouldn’t manage a 5th one.
That pretty much sums up day 2 as well, except that on day 2 the 1st dose was already a bit of a challenge and dose 2 was a nightmare…

A good tip
Seeing me suffer so much taking this stuff, Miguel, one of the people in charge, came over to me and recommended i took the next dose in one go. Until then i had been sipping it slowly and following each sip with water. That was also diluting the brew considerably — not good.
So i did : i downed the following doses like you down a shot of tequila and it made things incredibly easier. Still tough & awful, but easier.

Another good tip
Have some sweets handy. On day 2 I took some Halls with me and after swigging down the brown brew i’d suck on a Halls for a minute. You don’t eat it, you just use it for its taste. Knowing that you have that immediate change of taste at your disposal is a major help and quite a relief.

What does it taste like?
It’s hard to tell: just trust me, you’ve never tried anything like it.
It feels to me like a very concentrated mix of tobacco, liquorice, stale acid Guinness & Carls Junior coffee.

Probably the most horrible thing i have ever had to ingest…just ahead of a Wimpy burger on a motorway in the UK.
Almost a week after my last ceremony, just the thought of it makes me shake my head & shudder in disgust. Yet i know i need more of that medicine in me and i am grateful every day that goes by for being able to have it in me.

Ingredients :
– Ayahuasca (Banisteriopsis caapi)
– Chacruna (Psychotria viridis)

Colour : brown, with black residue at the bottom.
